Quick Tip – Make a Good Choice Great

Nothing is wrapped up in a bow – Issue #93

When you’re searching for a new opportunity, it’s tempting to hold out for the perfect job. Of course, you want the best company, role, and compensation that you can find.

However, it’s easy to get stuck in a mode of “analysis paralysis” when you burden yourself with making the best possible decision. There is no such thing as the “perfect job.”

No job comes wrapped up in a bow, just waiting for you to sit down at your desk so that the magic can happen. Jobs are opportunities, not complete and ideal solutions.

You have the opportunity to turn a good job into a great career move. It’s up to you to make the most of the situation.

Think of any new job opportunity as having the raw materials for helping to define the next step in your career. Yes, some jobs will be better than others. They will also vary in a variety of ways:

  • The manager

  • The team

  • The role

  • Projects

  • Opportunities for growth

  • Opportunities for learning

  • Potential for skill development

It can be challenging to compare job opportunities on all of these factors. But, once you have a few good options — even if they are good in different ways — it’s hard to go wrong with choosing one and doubling down on making that job great.

Don’t let yourself get hung up on finding the perfect job. Find a good job and invest in making it an excellent opportunity for you.
