It's Not About You. It's About All of Us.
🚀 Why social distancing is so crucial right now – Issue #152
As COVID-19 cases continue to rise globally (and in the U.S.), we have officially reached pandemic levels. Experts recommend several strategies for slowing the spread of the virus, but one rises above the rest.
Social distancing
All that it means is staying at home if you can — as much as possible — and keeping your distance from other human beings. It’s that simple.
When should we start practicing social distancing?
When we fear that we may have been exposed to the virus?
When we start feeling ill, and we’re concerned that we might have it?
When we know that we are contagious?
No. No. NO!
By the time you think that you may have the virus, it’s too late. You’ve already exposed others to it.
We all need to take action now. Right now. Even waiting one day makes a significant difference.
But, it isn’t that lethal, is it?
For a moment, set aside the fact that we don’t understand the actual mortality rate of COVID-19. We do know that it is much worse than the flu (probably 10x or more).
You may be in the lucky group of younger, healthy people who have little to fear from the coronavirus. But that’s not the point.
This isn’t about each individual’s risk. This is about our community risk. This is about the load that it will place on our hospitals and healthcare workers.
You may not become very ill or die, but others most certainly will. Our goal is to slow the spread of the virus and not become carriers ourselves.
We want to give everyone a fighting chance for survival!
Work from home and stay home, if you can
I know that some of us don’t have the luxury of working from home. Our jobs require that we go to a physical workplace.
However, some of you can work from home and you should. You should also limit nonessential travel (since you may not be able to come home again) and going out in public.
If you are feeling isolated and missing social contact, you can join my Facebook group and we can commiserate.
I know that this is unpleasant. But, we’ll all get through it and be ok if we are considerate and take action that will save the lives of others.
Stay safe, my friends!
